.DAT Data files, usually comma delimited, that contain data in ASCII format. Are able to be open in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Notepad. Usually files sent through email, that have become corrupted, acquire the .DAT file extensions and can be open in Word or Notepad, but cannot be read properly as they are in a scripted format.
